About
the Team
The University of Albany Ice Hockey
team is coming off their first Championship Season.
Last year, they established themselves as an elite team
in the MCHC and a top notch ACHA competitor. Since its
inception in 1976, the program has and will continue
to be run in a very professional manner. Funded through
the Student Association, the Great Danes Ice Hockey
team is one of the most reputable organizations on campus.
With this move, the team has also put themselves
into a high ranking position in the Atlantic Region
and an annual favorite for the National Tournament.
The team plays between 25 and 30 games per season
and practices twice a week. The home ice for the
Great Danes is the Albany Academy Ice Rink, located
only 10 minutes from campus. For all away games
the team travels together via coach bus.
All team members are required to be full time
students and in good academic standing with the
University. The Great Danes season begins with
a general interest meeting. After the meeting
the team conducts an open try-out.

The team begins its season in early September and runs
through early March. All practices and games are suspended
for major holidays and school closings. The team consists
of approximately 27 players and three coaches. This
season we are anxious to see how our new freshman and
transfers come to fill in the holes in what is already
a Championship line-up. The players come from various
team around the northeast region. Most players have
played either at the varsity high school level or at
the junior level.
This promises to be a great season for the Great Danes.
All are welcome to try-out or come down to support your
MCHC Champions as they look to repeat this year.
